On an unusually sunny, beautiful 28th of January here in San Francisco; we joined the masses and flocked (walked) to the 21st annual Zinfandel Advocate & Producers ZinFest at the Concourse on Brannan in SOMA. In past years, ZinFest has been held at Fort Mason and this new venue was a pleasant surprise. It seemed much larger and gave room for breathing, drinking and enjoyment of good wine.
With glass and baguette in hand, we tasted roughly 30 different wines from various producers, but the following came out as shining stars of the zin-crowd:
Outpost 2010 Barrel Sample
Turley 2009 Dogtown Vineyard
Bucklin 2009 Mixed Blacks Red Wine
Robert Biale 2010 Black Chicken
Brown Estate 2010 Rosemary’s Block
We’re already looking forward to next year and the great new wines that await our palates.
Cheers!

For me, the Turley 2009 Dogtown Vineyard was the star of the zin-crowd. Among the 20 we've tasted, it was the most unique and remarkable. Can't wait for the next ZINFest!
