I find that writing about something so dear to me can be challenging. Brown Estate is so very dear to me that it’s at the very tip-top of the challenging list. I’ve procrastinated this blog (love letter) for almost a year now, having a strong desire to write it time and time again. As I’m coming up on my one-year anniversary (as a wine club member) with Brown Estate, the best anniversary gift I can think of is this:
Dear Brown Estate,
You are more than a winery, more than a label, and more than a place. As a family, you all are so strong and lovely, warm and welcoming, and so intelligent and forward thinking. I cannot help but be entirely obsessed with your never-ending “coolness” and always-desirable wines. Dr. and Mrs. Brown, David, Deneen, Coral, Stefanie and company; you all make Brown Estate what it is today– a genuine, from the ground-up success story. Your family and wines are something everyone should experience within their lifetime.
My introduction to your wine was at Ma(i)sonry in Yountville, shortly after its opening in 2008. As I took my first few sips of your Chaos Theory, I had no idea just how in love with you I would fall. Over the following year or so, I purchased a case here and a case there through Ma(i)sonry, not knowing what existed of you beyond the collective setting. With more and more encouragement in the social media scene from Brendan, I soon found many wineries on Twitter and started my social butterfly ways. Then along came you, @brownestate. It was cyber-fate. A brand and family brought to me by the stars and moons. After much tweeting amongst us, I received a formal invite to heaven: the winery, your home.
When we arrived at the winery for the first time, we were greeted with smiles and good cheer. For the following 2 hours we were indulged and spoiled in all your greatness. From the entrance of the caves through your Secret Garden-like door, to your cozy tasting room that I can only describe as “THE” light at the end of the tunnel; our first trip was beyond belief. Each sip and pairing grew better and better as the time passed on that day.
Since that first visit to the winery, I have spent much energy singing the good praises of you, Brown Estate and your family. Your wines are ever changing, eye opening and the best around, period. You and your family are so dear to me and I consider each one of you a great friend.
Thank you, Brown Estate (and Brown Family) for the past year. I look forward to many, many more.
Love,
Morgan
