Farmstead Restaurant sits just off the right-hand side of the road when you’re heading north before you come into downtown St. Helena, along Hwy 29. Long Meadow Ranch, through their responsible farming and ranching (their beef and veggies are seasonally featured on the menu) have created a true, exceptional farm-to-table restaurant that defines casual wine country dinning. Once a nursery barn, the building has been transformed into a warm and inviting 110-seat culinary haven for your inner foodie. Plus, they have a full-bar that’s great for both drinking and dinning.

I’ve enjoyed both dinner and lunch a number of times at Farmstead but felt extra compelled to write about what a fantastic job they do after a recent late-lunch on their sunny patio during a lazy Saturday afternoon (perfection, right!?).

Some of my favorites from their menu:

Meatballs with caramelized root vegetables & tomato marmalade

Salad of arugula with strawberries, redwood hills feta, lavender almonds & apple cider vinaigrette

“Potted” pig with homemade mustard and toast

Hazel’s buttermilk dumplings with chicken

Cheesburger on a potato bun with california cheddar and arugula

Muffaletta sandwich with soppressata, bierwurst, olive salad and jersey milk cheese and coleslaw

Chris Hall has a great wine program at Farmstead. Their by the glass menu is great and their full-bottle list is more than up to par with other restaurants in the valley and they only charge a $2 corkage, which is a donation that goes directly to to a local community-building non-profit or organization. Along with Farmstead restaurant on the property, they also have Long Meadow Ranch’s tasting room (olive oil & wine) and Tesoro (a florist and floral shop), both beautiful and easily accessible while dinning at the restaurant. In addition to the monthly dinning events and winemaker dinners Farmstead hosts, they have renovated their outdoor spaces and are now available for private events.

Farmstead has been a perfect addition to St. Helena and I hope it continues to thrive in it’s excellent location.
