Hawk’s Tavern is a welcomed addition to Mill Valley, in our book. There has been a need for more casual fare than what’s offered up at Bungalow 44, Buckeye Roadhouse and the newish (awesome!) El Paseo. It seems like Hawk’s Tavern has really hit the nail on the head. With the advice and guidance of the Tavern-Master himself, Tyler Florence, Chef Michael Thiemann has taken the menu TF created and serves it up in a great way.
On New Years Eve day, while en-route to San Francisco from the North Bay, I remembered this new little gem I’d heard about and not 10 minutes later we were seated in a cozy corner of Hawk’s Tavern with beverages in hand. We settled on a few items to share, each were good-sized portions and tasty. My personal favorite was the spilt pea soup. It had a really innovative, mediterranean flare that was super palate pleasing. My better half said that the house made lemonade was super-yum and tasted like it came from a little kid’s neighborhood stand (the real stuff, not crystal light) plus, it was adorned with a cute, striped paper straw.
Hawk’s Tavern has a gastropub base with creative, California flare– a winning combo! We’re looking forward to our next visit when traveling through Mill Valley and craving some comfort food.
