While we don’t consider ourselves coffee connoisseurs, we do enjoy ourselves a good cup of caffeine to keep us going. Luckily, we live in a city that supports boutique locally roasted coffee, bringing an exciting twist to the beverage. San Francisco is home to many renowned coffee roasters including (but not limited to); Blue Bottle Coffee, Ritual Coffee Roasters, Sight Glass and Four Barrel Coffee. Generally we brew one of these local roasters at home or occasionally hit up their nearest retail location or even head to Starbucks to handle our caffeine craving.
This was all fine and dandy, until we found Philz Coffee. Philz Coffee provides the locally-roasted boutique coffee taste with the convenience of multiple SF Bay Area retail locations. Philz Coffee is the result of 25 years of coffee roasting and blending by its owner Phil Jaber. Phil’s passion and purpose for his company and coffee is best seen in a student-produced video featured on their website.
What do we love about Philz?
Each cup of coffee is brewed one at a time. Yes that is right, no pot sitting around growing more stale by the minute. You order, they make a single batch of coffee just for you and surprisingly the wait time is about the same as a Starbucks. Ordering for someone else? Never know how much sugar or cream to put in? Don’t worry, they do it for you. Just tell them if you would like it really sweet and creamy or just a little.
Purchasable at most local Whole Foods (if not at your local whole foods, talk to a manager – let them know…. They can get it!)
What do we recommend?
Like your coffee Black? …. Try the New Manhattan!
Like Cream and/or Sugar? Try the Tesora or Phil Harmonic (with a garnish of mint)!
Like espresso drinks like Mocha’s? … Try the Mocha Tesora!

Places like this are my oasis in the desert. God made coffee shops for angels and saints. Any good coffee shop will do.
