No goose eggs here, folks. Zero Zero is a win-win, all the way! This double-decker SOMA eatery and bar (2 of them!) will quench your thirst and keep your mouth watering for more of their tasty food. Zero Zero prides itself on fresh pizzas, with one of the best crusts I’ve had in a while. 8 well-priced pizzas are featured on their menu each day and a ninth, seasonal pizza, to mix things up.
Our first experience at Zero Zero was a rainy Saturday Brunch, couldn’t have been better timing and was just the fix we needed. Kicked things off with the Avocado Bruschetta, one of three different types they offer on their starter menu. I could have honestly had 2 more of the exact same thing, it was that tasty! House cured lardo base, toped with sliced avocado and pickled onions, perfection on a plate! Moving on, we shared 2 entrée-sized items, one off the Brunch menu and the other off the Lunch menu: Skillet Fried Chicken Thighs with Semolina Waffle & Chestnut Honey and the Castro Pizza (sopressata, house made sausage, tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil). First the chicken and waffles arrived; while Morgan is not the biggest fan of this combo— I was thrilled and we both enjoyed the spin Zero Zero puts on this southern-comfort classic. The biggest treat of the meal was the Castro pizza, like I mentioned, one of the best crusts I’ve had– boasting great meats and basil that seemed extra fresh and aromatic.
To compliment our choices and satisfy our taste buds, Morgan enjoyed a Zero Mary (vodka, zero mary mix, lemon and arugula oil) and I (being DD for the day) had a Hanks Root Beer. We were unfortunately too full to try their dessert options but they have a sweet way of laying all their choices on the line for you. Each patron receives a sheet with all dessert-ly items, you can circle the treats you’d like and mix n’ match—custom, tailored desserts, just the way you like them!
We’ll be back to Zero Zero soon and we hope you’ll check them out too!
Cheers!
